Cyber Safety Project team up with The FUSE Cup

It’s a perfect match! The FUSE Cup, an international esports competition for kids, and the Cyber Safety Project are teaming up to create safer online communities.

New research from Oxford University has found that time spent playing games is positively associated with wellbeing. This is not surprising when considering that the top 5 reasons why people game are to have fun, de-stress, stay challenged, pass time and keep their minds active. There are also many educational benefits to gaming including promoting critical and creative thinking, problem solving and collaborations skills.

Today, more people today play online games than watch TV. With the rise of the metaverse and virtual communities there has never been a more important time to engage with children to discuss inclusive, healthy and safe game play.

The FUSE Cup provides school students with a face to face, safe, competitive and challenging esports opportunity while also promoting concepts such as digital wellbeing, inclusion and social values. Their competitions are structed to ensure that everyone involved enjoys positive and safe experiences that help promote and establish healthy gaming habits for younger gamers.

These activities will have students tuning into the strategies that gaming platforms use to gain and capture our attention, ways to manage cyberbullying and promote help seeking.
